Great Wall Motor (GWM) has launched its second-generation Haval H9 diesel SUV, offering two trim levels: the Tuojing at 233,900 yuan (approximately $32,200 USD) and the Jijing at 247,900 yuan (around $34,100 USD). The diesel model shares its design and features with the gasoline version, including both five and seven-seat configurations.
The H9 features a prominent rectangular grille and circular headlights. Aerodynamic efficiency is improved by a 39.3° angle on the A-pillar, reducing wind noise. Buyers can choose from white, black, gray, and green exterior colors.
Safety is a key focus, with 13 Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). These include features like traffic sign recognition, rear collision warning, and automatic emergency braking capable of detecting pedestrians, cyclists, other vehicles, and hazards at intersections.
Powering the new H9 is a 2.4L GW4D24 diesel engine producing 181 horsepower (135 kW) and 480 Nm of torque. It’s paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and a BorgWarner Torque-on-Demand four-wheel-drive system. The fuel tank holds 78 liters. GWM has focused on noise reduction, implementing seven measures such as anti-backlash gears, modal avoidance, and oil pump wrapping to ensure a quieter driving experience.
The H9 offers seven driving modes: standard, sport, economy, 4L (low range), sand, mud, and snow. Enhanced vehicle stability is provided by a system that brakes individual wheels to counteract oversteer (braking the outer front wheel) and understeer (braking the inner rear wheel) during slippery conditions or cornering.
The vehicle’s dimensions are 5070(4950)/1976(1960)/1930 mm (length/width/height) with a 2850 mm wheelbase. It boasts a 224 mm minimum ground clearance, a 31° approach angle, a 26°/25° departure angle, an 800 mm wading depth, and a 2.5-ton towing capacity.
Inside, both five and seven-seat options are available. The seats have been upgraded with extra padding and longer cushions for improved leg support. The five-seater offers 791 liters of trunk space, expanding to 1814 liters with the rear seats folded.
The interior design mirrors the gasoline version, featuring a 10.25-inch instrument panel and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen. The voice control system manages various functions, including multimedia, navigation, phone calls, climate control, sunroof, windows, and seat adjustments. Practicality is enhanced by 45 storage compartments throughout the cabin.
